Welcome

Appointment Booking

Important information

We regret to inform you that due to the current situation the German Embassy London has decided to cancel all appointments for passport and national ID card applications until further notice. As of Tuesday, 17 March 2020 we are only operating with a skeleton staff.

This applies to the German Consulate General Edinburgh from Monday, 23 March.

In case you need to travel in the immediate future and do not have a valid travel document we may be able to assist with an emergency appointment. Please contact us by email at the German Embassy London or by email at the Consulate General Edinburgh elaborating the kind of emergency and attaching suitable evidence.

Should you have already been notified that your new passport/ ID card can be collected please send us a self-addressed and pre-paid “Royal Mail Special Delivery” envelope. Should your old documents still be valid, please include them with the envelope. We will mail you your new passport/ ID card as well as your cancelled old documents as soon as possible. Alternatively you may leave the documents with us for safe-keeping until the situation has normalised.

Thank you for your understanding and stay healthy

Appointment at the Embassy in London

Passport appointments for the Embassy in London can only be booked online with the German Foreign Office. To make an appointment online please visit their website:

BOOK AN APPOINTMENT

Please note that the appointments offered on this system are the earliest and the only appointments available. Due to a high demand there can be a waiting period for appointments for several weeks. Therefore we are unable to offer you a short term appointment. We ask you to make an appointment as early as possible - preferably 6 months before your passport expires - to arrange an appointment. Please note that one appointment must be booked for every application, so every applicant must have their own appointment. Therefore please expect some waiting time.

Only in extreme emergencies (death or illness of a family member) we can offer individual emergency appointments. In every individual case proof of the emergency (death certificate, medical certificate or similar) which can be verified, must be sent in advance.

In that case, please send us an email: Email Embassy

You can also send a fax with your contact details to 0207 824 1449 or call our emergency telephone hotline on 0207 8241 426.

We strive to respond to your enquiries as soon as possible. Although, please note that due to the high number of requests, processing your enquiry could take some time.
