Appointment booking

Article

You can only apply for a passport once you have made an appointment. Appointments can be booked via the website of the German Missions in the United Kingdom or directly with the Honorary Consul offices

General information

Please note the following when booking an appointment:

  • A separate appointment must be booked for each applicant (e.g. if you are applying for yourself and your two children à you need to book 3 appointments)
  • You can apply for more than one document at one appointment (e.g. a passport and an ID card; please let the counter staff know)
  • For security reasons, no devices such as mobile phones, smartwatches, tablets or cameras are allowed in the waiting room (lockers are provided
  • There is a security check on entry (including X-ray of your bags)
  • Please arrive promptly for your appointment; if you are late the appointment may have to be cancelled

If there is an emergency (e.g. death or illness in your immediate family, or short-notice business trip) and you need an appointment sooner, we would ask you to contact the Passport Section using the contact form and have documentary evidence of your emergency situation ready (e.g. death certificate, letter from your employer or business invitations). We will try to reply to you as quickly as possible.

Booking an appointment at the Embassy in London or the Consulate General in Edinburgh

You can use the consulate finder to find out whether you come under the consular district of the German Embassy in London or of the Consulate General in Edinburgh.

Please note that, if you book an appointment at the wrong mission, i.e. not the one responsible for your area (e.g. Edinburgh instead of London), your application will be rejected.

Appointment at an Honorary Consul’s office

You can also make an appointment with one of our Honorary Consuls in the United Kingdom. Please note that not all documents can be applied for through an Honorary Consul, and not every Honorary Consul offers this service.

You can only request an appointment with an Honorary Consul if you live in his or her consular district. You can find this out using the consulate finder.
