Geographically located at the heart of Europe, Germany is a central hub of international truck traffic. Rapid growth in the volume of freight transport has placed a tremendous burden on German motorways. This has resulted in increased investment requirements for maintenance and expansion.
Changes to the current motorway toll system came into force on 1 January 2009. The revised system provides a broader range of toll rates based on emission categories and takes into account the fitting of new and used vehicles with emissions control equipment.
