Passports and ID cards

Applications for passports and identity cards can be made at the Embassy in London or at the Consulate General in Edinburgh. The Honorary Consuls in Aberdeen, Barrow upon Humber, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool, Londonderry/Derry, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, Plymouth and Southampton also accept passport and identity card applications. Please note the respective consular districts.

Information about the electronic German ID Card

The German ID card containing a contactless electronic chip is a multi-function card the size of a credit card. The applicant’s photo is saved on the chip. This biometric data may only be read by official agencies (e.g. border officials, police).
