Honorary Consuls
Two German missions and seventeen Honorary Consuls throughout the United Kingdom offer consular services. Each mission covers a specific geographic region. To find out which mission can assist you, what the hours of operation are and how to reach it please use our interactive Consulate Finder.
The work of Honorary Consuls:
The Federal Republic of Germany has a global network of more than 350 Honorary Consuls, 17 of them in the United Kingdom.
For the German Embassy in London and the German Consulate General in Edinburgh, the Honorary Consuls, who provide a permanent presence in the regions, perform an important function: they have good civic connections in their consular districts and play a valuable role in nurturing business and cultural relationships. They also assist the German missions abroad by performing consular tasks (including authenticating signatures or copies and processing passport applications).
Please refer to the information provided for each individual Honorary Consul to find out what services he or she is able to offer. In the case of more complex legal matters please contact the relevant diplomatic mission directly.
The fees charged for official consular acts are generally the same, whether they are carried out by an Honorary Consul or at one of the German missions abroad. Please note that an additional service fee is charged, on top of the regular passport fee, for passport applications submitted via an Honorary Consul.
