The German Embassy in London is seeking a Chef for the German Ambassador’s Residence to start at the beginning of October 2026.

The successful candidate will assist the Head Chef with all tasks in the Residence Kitchen and deputise for him in his absence. Duties include:

  • Working in all areas of the kitchen as garde manger, entremetier, saucier, pâtissier
  • Planning and delivering catering for the Ambassador’s official events, in particular preparing breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas, dinners, buffets, cocktail receptions/ finger food
  • Creating menu suggestions
  • Purchasing, research, organisation and cleaning
  • Liaising with the Events Team and Ambassador's Office (in the Head Chef's absence)
  • Keeping the kitchen stocked

as agreed with the Head Chef.

Candidate profile:

  • Entitled to live and work in the UK (proof required)
  • Professional cookery qualification desired and/or several years’ broad experience in prestigious kitchens
  • Good team player and willing to learn
  • Service-minded and good organisational skills
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Flexible
  • Good command of English

Training will be provided. Contract based on UK employment law. Normal working time will be 40 hours a week (usually Monday to Friday), to be worked flexibly according to the Ambassador’s schedule. Must be willing to work overtime in return for time off in lieu. Starting salary £3,416 gross per month, rising to £3,563 after six months. Relevant previous experience may be taken into account, potentially resulting in a higher salary grade.

Salary will be taxable in Germany unless you are a British citizen and do not also hold German citizenship. National Insurance contributions are to be paid in the United Kingdom.
