Online visa application for long-stay national visas

Article

The Federal Foreign Office is developing and expanding its range of consular services available online. The Consular Services Portal is helping it to gradually simplify the process both for applicants and for the missions abroad. You can now apply for certain visa categories online.

It is now possible to apply for selected types of long-term visas (category D only) online with our missions in the UK. Please apply online in the following categories:

  • Opportunity card
  • University studies including year abroad/ exchange placements

Important notice

Please note, that applicants residing in Scotland have to submit their application at the Consulate General in Edinburgh. Applicants residing in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight, the British Channel Islands, Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) have to submit their application at the Embassy in London.

Please choose the correct visa department very carefully. Incorrectly submitted applications cannot be processed.

You will receive online feedback as to whether your documents are complete. If documents do not meet the requirements, we will request that you upload the missing or corrected documents. Your appointment at the visa section will thereafter be quick and efficient: you present the requested original documents, provide your biometric data (fingerprints and photograph) and pay the fee.

Please note: we will only request corrections once, being invited to book an appointment does not necessarily mean, that your documentation is complete. Final checks under immigration law will only be completed after your appointment at the Embassy/ Consulate General.
