Terms and Conditions

1. The competition runs from 29 September 2025 until 5 October 2025 23:59 BST.

2. The competition is open to UK residents aged 18 years and over only, excluding employees of the German Embassy London and the Consulate General Edinburgh or their family members.

3. Ten winners will be drawn at random from all correct entries after 5 October 2025 and winners will be contacted by email thereafter. Winners must confirm that they are a UK resident and supply their address in order to have the prize posted to them. If a winner does not reply to our email within 48 hours, an alternative winner will be drawn.

4. There are ten prizes available: each winner will receive seven books: Thomas Brussig: The short end of the Sonnenallee, Wolfgang Herrndorf: Why we took the car, Daniela Krien: Someday we‘ll tell each other everything, Katja Oskamp: Marzahn, Mon Amour, Eugen Ruge: In Times of Fading Light, Judith Schalansky: The Giraffe's Neck, Lutz Seiler: Star 111. No cash alternative is available.

5. The draw by the German Embassy’s Press Section is final.

6. All submitted data will be deleted once all winners have received their prizes. Please read our data protection declaration here.

7. The German Embassy reserves the right to cancel or change the whole competition, part of the competition and/or the rules without prior notice. The Embassy will publish details of any changes.
